Architectural Control Committee
The Architectural Control Committee (ACC) is made up of Thornhill members. Its work keeps the community looking fresh and helps protect the investment in our homes.
Exterior additions or modifications to property in Thornhill require prior approval by ACC. If you are unsure if your project needs approval, please reach out to the management company before getting underway. Homeowners are advised to submit an ACC request even for projects that replace like-for-like materials or color.
Architectural Request for Approval
To learn more about the types of exterior modifications allowed in Thornhill, please review the Community Guidelines. Then fill out the Architectural Request for Approval Form (pp. 12-16) and submit.
Be sure to fill out the form completely, including the Acknowledgement of Adjacent Owners section, and submit all required documentation. Missing information can cause delays and result in automatic denial of the request.
When management determines that an application is complete, it is passed to the ACC Committee for review. ACC has 30 days to respond, but typically processes most requests within a week or two.
When ACC has reached a decision about your project, you will be notified in writing by management. Be sure to factor the ACC review period into your project plans and do not begin your project until written approval from ACC and management is received.
Common improvements requiring ACC approval:
- Additions e.g., screened porch
- Exterior paint / Siding / Trim / Windows
- Roof replacement
- Mailbox replacement (see below)
- Fences
- Decks / Patios / Outdoor kitchens
- Swimming pools / Hot tubs
- Play equipment / Basketball goals
Mailbox Replacement
An ACC application is required for mailbox replacement. The preferred mailbox style is similar to the Providence Crossing or Vineyard Grape styles offered by Watson Steel and Iron (with whom Thornhill has negotiated exception pricing). Plastic or PVC mailboxes will not be approved.
